 | At the second meeting of the
quarter, the BC coordinator will ask for volunteers to host the next
quarter’s book club meetings. |
 | As the hostess you pick the
date, time of day and title for your meeting and must get this info
(plus a brief summary of the book) to the newsletter editor in time
for the deadline.
|
 | Please don’t pick a book
that’s not out in paperback yet. Waiting for PB version helps
members afford books and/or ensures that books are more easily
available at local libraries.
|
 | If you’ve already hosted in
the past 12 months (or, since 9/2005), please wait to offer to host
again.
|
 | As hostess, you might want to
have a few questions or discussion points to get conversation going or
on track. There's no need to have hand outs or anything formal,
just kind of be there to get us started.
|
 | If you’re not sure what the
group might like to read, you’re free to ask for suggestions on the
book loop and then choose from that. Non-hostesses are free to
recommend any hot reading tips on the book club loop.
|
 | When selecting your book, try
to pick something that has some interesting things to discuss about
it, not necessarily the same thing as a fun book to read. Often
whodunits and romances are great beach or tub reading, but not
necessarily good discussion fodder.
|
 | Please have mercy on mothers of
young children when you consider the length of the book you choose -
we rarely read anything over 500 pages.
|
 | If there’s a book you’d
love to read but just can’t host a meeting at your house, talk to
the BC coordinator and see what can be arranged. For
example, you might be able to be the “hostess” at someone else’s
house who has already hosted.
|
 | At meetings during the day,
children are welcome. Evening meetings are for moms only.
This cannot change. We normally have one evening meeting and two
daytime meetings per quarter, but this can change if the general
consensus among regular members warrants it. |
